even though my space was my first active blog, after using typepad, i'm becoming convinced the advanced publishing capabilities are more useful to me than all the friends list stuff.

As you can tell, I've not nearly been as prolific on my space as I would like to be.  I guess the problem is I'm working on a bunch of things right now which are totally sucking all my time.  Here is a sampling:

 

Helping Wendy pimp her blog with new widgets, forms, layouts, etc.  check it out, it's prob one of the best seattle real estate blogs in existence.

 

My tech event calendar site which is part hobby, part dogfood for Trumba, part business.

 

Trumba's blog where I'm the defacto blogger in chief.

 

Various and sundry other things in life like trying to lose some weight through extended dog walking, my day job as a marketing dude at Trumba, and serving as Wendy's vp of marketing :)

Here's a neat site built on the Office Live website building tools.  We need to get them a Trumba booking calendar but not bad.  I wonder how the folks at Homestead and similar places will differentiate.

 

As much as it pains me to see MSFT stumble these days, one of the things that is interesting to note is that some people are now looking at the soft as the underdog.  it's not explicit but read the comments in this recent cnet article.  Can you imagine people sticking up for the soft even as short as 2 years ago?

As a loyal MSN user, I recently installed the MSN Toolbar with Phishing filter.  Oddly enough, the only sites it claims to be dangerous are other MSN sites.  Notice what I see when I try to login to my MSN Hotmail. 

 

While I'm on the subject of MSN, I can no use Live.com as my homepage because it tries to load all the modules and I can't stop it even if I'm just trying to launch my browser to go to another url.  Perhaps when they add an option where it doesn't try and load all the modules when I launch the browser (only when I click a Load button), I'll make it the default home page.  For now, it's back to the MSN.com classic home page or the other search engine. 

Here's a great article about the project I used to work on.  It's great to see the effort getting some high profile exposure and it also shows the human side of MSFT - something I've always thought was lacking in MSFT's marketing. 

 

The classic example of MSFT's missed marketing opportunities is the Realizing Potential ads from a couple years back.  The patriarchal voice over saying "We see..." seems almost Orwellian.

 

One of these days they're gonna run MSFT commercials featuring the people behind MSFT and hopefully the rest of the world can see what an interesting company it really is.

What's the story with Technorati's crappy QOS and quasi-pron ads?  Weird.

if u get a new computer and are tempted to use some 3rd party software to transfer everything -- even applications -- from your old computer, do NOT do it.  it will break things, mess with the os, break apps, and create havoc.

 

idiots at dell cross sold me POS software from aloha bob (i should have known given that name) and now i have to roll it all back and start from scratch.

 

these are the times when i really hate software.

Good post by my boss here further distancing Trumba from the free consumer calendar meat grinder and getting in to the meat supplier business. 

 

 

 

So I spent a lot of time helping Wendy add a bunch of cool widgets to her blog.  Check it out.  Her post on Feng Shui is actually quite good.

Since one of my colleagues says I whine too much on my blog, I'm gonna give some good feedback.  The Brother all in one laser printer is a joy to work with.  Sucks in multipages faxes into memory, prints fast and sharp, and has great multi page scan to PDF capabilities as well.

 

Soooo much better than our previous POS HP.

 

i just spent 30 minutes trying to fax 3 pages.  the hp 6110xi does not fax from memory but directly from each page meaning u have to wait 1 minute for each page to get sucked in.  to make matters worse, it constantly sucks in more than one page at once so u have to stand there and feed it one by one.

 

f--k u hp, ur faxing capabilities suck donkey.

Came across SmileBox today.  Blue chip investors and strong management team but I still don't quite understand how it works.  I guess it's ad-funded flash ecards which is kinda cool if people send them.

 

Then again, perhaps people are scratching their heads about other Seattle start ups  so I'll stop being so critical.

So I set up a TypePad account for wendy's new Seattle Condos blog.  As part of this effort, I saw how flexible their service is in terms of badges, ads, widgets, and control.

 

I'm very tempted to migrate from Spaces to TypePad -- while Spaces has been good to me, I can't help but feel like I've outgrown it a bit.

 

 

Great discussion on mini-msft.  As a small shareholder, I'd be curious how they discuss this at the next earnings call.
