8月18日 do i need to tell you what u can do with an aluminium tube?i've blogged about this bfore ad will do it again. this is one of my favorite comedy skits of all time. i laugh out loud every time.
snakes on a plane?walking home from work the other day i say a bunch of people on the sidewalk outside cinerama camping out for tickets to "snakes on a plane." given that the first time i saw the trailer i thought it was one of those verizon turn off you cellphone ads, i was shocked that people are so excited about such a seemingly vapid movie. was this a remake of some sort of cult classic or is the world going down the drain? 8月13日 world trade centersaw world trade center this weekend. while i'm no fan of oliver stone's politics, this was easily one of the most powerful cinematic productions i've ever experienced. it's more a story about survival, courage, love, and comraderie on an individual level than the attacks themselves.
there were two odd scenes in the movie which i could have done without: the weird dream sequence and the odd marine volunteer who had some sort of crusader look.
other than those combined 10 minutes of the movie, the rest was an incredible and moving journey. i think 20% of the audience was weeping (including me). 7月3日 Devil Wears PradaAn excellent movie well beyond my expectations. Meryl Streep is brilliant and Anne Hathaway is absolutely mesmerizing in her flawless presentation of the girl next door. Something for everyone in this movie. 6月29日 don't watch supermani was dragged there by a friend last night to watch this 3 hour ordeal at 10pm. first movie i've ever fell asleep at. 2月16日 What's up with Dancing with the Stars? Two of the women look really scary - like plastic surgeries and tanning salons gone wrong.
1月21日 Keepin it realThanks to Netflix's somewhat invasive friends feature, I noticed Richard thought highly of Daughter from Denang. A very good movie. Essentially, a 1/2 American GI + 1/2 Vietnamese woman finds and visits her Vietnamese mother after growing up in Tennesee and is overwhelmed and shocked when her Vietnamese family asks her for financial assistance. When she returns home, she - in her own words - "closes the door" on her overseas family.
My take is her Vietnamese family probably should have been a little more sensitive about how they discussed this issue with her. At the same time, the Amerasian woman should have probably learned a little more about Asian customs as it relates to supporting parents.
A very thought-provoking movie. 1月2日 King Kong and Memoirs of a GeishaKing Kong was long and somewhat disappointing. Kong was probably the best actor in the whole thing. I'd wait till it hits Netflix if I were you.
Memoirs was surprisingly good. Beautiful cinematography. Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li were stunning to look at and great actresses as well. Ken Watanabe was great as well. The only uncomfortable moment was the depiction of the Americans post war. I'm sure it happened but the way all the Japanese women were falling over themselves to drink whiskey with the American GI's was a bit much. The way the American GI's were depicted as animal house with uniforms and cameras was also an unfavorable generalization as well. 12月16日 Randall shows his true colorsSo I finally saw the finale of the Apprentice. Why the heck did Randall trash Rebecca when he won and Trump wanted to let her run the condo project? Up until that moment, Randall projected himself as the nice guy but you saw his killer instincts come through in the last episode. He came after Rebecca trashing her record and then after he wins his choice of the two projects, he is given the opportunity to hook Rebecca up and says no? WTF Randall? 10月5日 Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes expecting babypoor ms. holmes. what has she gotten herself into? what used to be an amusing hollywood couple similar to bennifer has become quite perverse (she's 26 and he's 41 so when she was in diapers, he was in high school).
9月29日 Jennifer, no one cares what sex your baby is Check out the article below. Is it me or does Jennifer have delusions of the whole world wondering if her baby will be a boy or girl? Since clearly, she already knows - why all the secrecy? I could see if they wanted it to be a surprise for themselves but since the parents know, does it really make sense to play coy on the Leno show?
I used to be indifferent to Gartner, now I'm quite tired of her. Perhaps next thing you know she will refuse to tell us what she had for breakfast today. Oooooh, what a big secret we all are dying to know. Please Jennifer, get over yourself. No one gives a flying fart what sex your baby is. Why you married Ben after he was almost gonna marry J.Lo, now that's worthy of keeping a secret...

Mrs. Affleck, meanwhile, apparently hasn't picked up any covert-ops skills in her years of playing a CIA agent on "Alias." With the due date of her little Ben-bino fast approaching, the usually tight-lipped actress, 33, can't stop tripping over her tongue. Twice in recent weeks, Garner has seemingly confirmed the long-running rumor that she's expecting a girl. During a stopover on "The Tonight Show" Tuesday to promote Thursday's season premiere of her ABC spy drama, the actress was asked by Jay Leno whether she knew what she was having. She played it coy and deflected the question, quipping, "We have one or the other, for sure." Leno then lobbed another softball, asking whether she had finished decorating the nursery. Garner launched into a story about how she had planned to buy everything at the last minute, only to realize the baby products she wanted had to be pre-ordered. "Apparently you need a crib," laughed Jen. "I kind of thought shhhh[e] ... this kid won't know what's going on." A few minutes later, Garner began talking about her expanding belly, describing how self-conscious she felt at the Hurricane Katrina telethon when she realized that her phone was broken and she was stuck on TV with nothing to do. "I have never felt so pregnant in my life," she recalled. "You can just start to feel really pregnant, like you are the hugest person on the face of the planet and I sat there, and first I felt bad, just because I wasn't helping, and then I just felt bigger and bigger like she was ..." Jen immediately stopped, threw an "oh no!" look at Leno and covered her mouth with her hand, prompting the already clap-happy crowd to break into cheers. Offered Jay, "You meant to say he." Garner's loose lips on Leno come on the heels of an Emmy night chat with "Access Hollywood," when she was asked by host Nancy O'Dell whether she had seen her show's new promo spots, in which a baby can be heard crying (her butt-kicking alter ego Sydney Bristow also has a bun in the oven). "I've heard, I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard, believe me," said Garner. When O'Dell joked, "I hope your baby's getting paid," the swelling star responded, "I think that's a great idea. She ... " Garner then caught herself and continued, "I think, yes, definitely." Ben and Jen are said to be partial to the name Violet. 8月30日 Gwyneth Paltrow should be deported to the HamptonsFurther confirmation that Gwyneth is way too full of herself. I never was fond of her from the first time she was on Jay Leno years ago. She reeks of Upper East Side condescension. Meg Ryan on the other hand is so much nicer. Even Nathalie Portman is more down to earth and smarter.
Quote MSN - News - Paltrow: Pitt Shouldn't Be So Public 8月27日 Over ThereI've found a new show on TV to look forward to. Steven Bochco's Over There is sort of like Black Hawk Down meets Hill Street Blues. Definitely recommend it. Even my wife (who generally doesn't like war movies) gives it a thumbs up. 8月5日 Kate Hudson's views on MarriageAs always, I start my day on the MSN.com homepage to catch up on celebrity gossip. This morning, I read an interesting article on Kate Hudson's views on marriage. While it's a bit depressing, I suspect she is stating the common practice for Hollywood marriages.
7月30日 Wedding Crashers 4.5/5.0Just saw it last night. Was hilarious. Vince Vaughn pretty much stole the show --- it's a bit of shame that he's been so type casted but he plays the slightly obnoxious guy's guy to perfection this time. Essentially, he added a but of comic vulnerability to his normal routine making the character much more approachable.
Highly recommend this one. 4.5/5.0 7月18日 Donald Trump gets beat downCheck out this recent interview of Donald Trump. He makes a joke about Omorasa getting divorced and coming after one of the ESPN hosts (who is African American) and the host dishes it back quite handily.
Well done.
6月26日 On Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Kings, Concubines, Porsche 911's, and Dirty Old MenSo I just came back from watching Batman with some friends and on the way back, we got into a spirited conversation. Here's a quick summary. Tom: Man, that Katie Holmes is not impressive at all. Tommy C is gonna kick her to the curb soon. Friend #1: Why do you say that? Tom: Because as an actress she was pretty unimpressive and what she has going for her is this young girl next door thing which I don't think will keep Tommy C's attention for long. Friend #2: I think Tommy C is the one at fault. If he's so much more mature, he should know that he's wasting her time and that they don't complement each other. Tom C is a dirty old man. Tom: That's fine and you're probably right. In any case, we essentially agree. I think Tom shouldn't be with Katie because she's a shallow child and you think they should be together because Katie is being taken advantage of. Friend #1: How do you know Katie is shallow? Tom: I'll tell you in a second but there are people in the elevator and the answer will sound ridiculous. (Tom and friends exit elevator) Tom: OK, I've seen interviews of her and I am very good and judging people based on TV interviews. I look at their diction, facial expressions, cadence, etc. I can generally judge their humility and depth of character after 2 minutes. As an example, I also know Gwyneth is a really arrogant, nasty woman after I saw her on Jay Leno a few years ago. Friend #2: Tom's right on that one. Gwyneth is a snob. Friend #3: Why do you say Katie is not in Tom's league? I mean, he's made a few good movies but... Tom: I just watched a 2 hour interview with him on Inside the Actor's Studio. He's a very gifted, intense, and complex character. He also very confident, passionate about his beleifs, and quite charismatic. Friend #2: I don't care what you say about Tom C. He's taking advantage of Katie. Friend #3: Worst case scenario. If Tom C dumps Katie, she'll still be in her 20s, more famous, and will have learned a big lesson. Tom: Yeah, that's a good point. All I'm saying is the relationship is destined for failure because Katie is out of her league. Friend #2: I don't like it when you say Katie is out of his league. You make it sound like the only job of a woman is to keep the man interested. Tom: That's not what I'm saying at all. But for Tom Cruise in particular, we know he goes through women very quickly, do we honestly think Katie is gonna be able to challenge him and help him grow as a person? Friend #2: Then if he is so smart, shouldn't he know Katie isn't right for him. Why else would he jump up and down on Oprah? Tom: Tom C is going through a midlife crisis. Katie is a fling for him so he feels young again but this is a relationship destined for disaster. She's like a Porsche 911. Friend #2: Tom is a dirty old man. Tom: He's a gifted actor who I agree is wasting Katie's time but it doesn't change the fact that she's way too simple for him. He needs someone like Nathalie Portman if he wants a young companion. Friend #2: Nathalie would never go for him. Tom: Precisely! Tom won't stay with a women who converts to scientology at the drop of a hat and is essentially a B actress. Friend #2: Tom represents all that women hate about men. You talk about Tom C like he's a king and Katie is one of his concubines. Tom: Precisely. He needs a queen, not a concubine. Friend #2: Where are you going? Tom: I gotta blog this. It's too interesting not to. Friend #2: You've got problems.
6月6日 Talking about Jackson treated for ‘excruciating’ back pain - Michael Jackson Trial - MSNBC.comAt first, I was disappointed that MJ was pretending to be ill as a jury decided whether he gets sent to the other Neverland. I presumed his attornies will plead that he's too ill to serve any prison time. Then again, the more I thought about it the more I realized if MJ gets sent to a real prison, it will be tantamount to a death sentence since the big house is not known for it's love of child molestors. Furthermore, MJ does not seem like he's ready to defend himself in the prison cafeteria (something tells me he will not even have his familiar umbrella or umbrella holder with him during excercise hour). Quote Jackson treated for ‘excruciating’ back pain - Michael Jackson Trial - MSNBC.com 5月11日 Rapping MBA'sCheck this interesting rendition of Vanilla Ice. Apparently Columbia has an MBA program. http://www0.gsb.columbia.edu/students/organizations/follies/index_files/Dean%20Dean%20Baby.wmv 5月7日 Kingdom of Heaven
A good movie - decent acting, great battle scenes, and nice soundtrack. Not ridey's best work but worth 10 bucks. Aside from the clear case of the Hollywood guilt complex funding this film (and thus resulting in misinformed people drawing false analalogies to today's Iraq war), a good moving picture. I only wish it didn't overcompensate for the Crusaders' hypocrisy by portraying them as complete goons. Would have been nice to see some altruistic Christians or perhaps some examples of Muslim wrongdoing. In either case, as long as you don't expect a documentary but a great war movie based on a true story, you'll be all set. |
