9月7日 Thanks for visiting my SpaceI have moved to a new blogging platform. Nothing against Spaces, it was my first real blog but I think it's a bit sparse in the way of blogging features once you've tried a few other ones. I was tempting to use TypePad but the cheapskate in me decided to give Vox a whild. You can visit me on my new Vox blog at www.tomtalking.com P.s. this is a good example of why everyone should own their own blog domain name. 8月27日 contemplating a new blogging platformeven though my space was my first active blog, after using typepad, i'm becoming convinced the advanced publishing capabilities are more useful to me than all the friends list stuff.
i may try vox as well since it's free. 8月18日 do i need to tell you what u can do with an aluminium tube?i've blogged about this bfore ad will do it again. this is one of my favorite comedy skits of all time. i laugh out loud every time.
snakes on a plane?walking home from work the other day i say a bunch of people on the sidewalk outside cinerama camping out for tickets to "snakes on a plane." given that the first time i saw the trailer i thought it was one of those verizon turn off you cellphone ads, i was shocked that people are so excited about such a seemingly vapid movie. was this a remake of some sort of cult classic or is the world going down the drain? 8月13日 world trade centersaw world trade center this weekend. while i'm no fan of oliver stone's politics, this was easily one of the most powerful cinematic productions i've ever experienced. it's more a story about survival, courage, love, and comraderie on an individual level than the attacks themselves.
there were two odd scenes in the movie which i could have done without: the weird dream sequence and the odd marine volunteer who had some sort of crusader look.
other than those combined 10 minutes of the movie, the rest was an incredible and moving journey. i think 20% of the audience was weeping (including me). 8月10日 retail lieswent to lowes to buy a new oven and range to spice up our little condo. the lowes display area has alluring signs all over saying "next day delivery." once you finalize the transaction, the estimated delivery time: 10 days later. lying sacks of shite. 8月6日 Bye bye Judy, Hello YelpEven though I was one of the earliest Judy's Book adopters, I recently discovered Yelp who has a far superior UI and a bit more fun factor built in. Check it out here: http://netboy.yelp.com p.s. to the MSN Spaces people, please don't make users manually insert a link when they type in an http://... address. it's not delightful. 8月1日 As if things couldn't get worst for vista...this is really painful to watch. i feel for the guy but i almost wonder if they tested it in that room before...
7月24日 stream of consciousness from tomnice to see omar's concern for my carpal - also great to hear he recuperated i had my three year wedding anniversary today. i love wendy. tried a new restaurant called nell's in green lake, one of the best meals i've ever had. the peach crisp dessert with blueberry ice cream was fricking ectsasy. war in middle east is bumming me out. i am ambivalent about israel. on the one hand, their response over 2 kidnappings seems to be out of control. on the other hand, i'm quietly hoping hezbollah will be gone when they're done. zillow raises another $25M. add this to the list of start ups i'm not sure i get. the new hotmail has a new today page, it's actually quite useful since they show recently updated spaces. if you knew how many meetings were had over this page, you wouldn't believe me. 7月18日 carpal updatesaw a doctor, as omar and others commented below, this is not something
to take lightly. the doctor poked my hand with a bunch of needles and
said the numb areas were consistent with a certain nerve getting
pinched due to inflamation of the muscles and stuff squeezing the nerve. her reco was to wear a special brace which prevents me from bending my wrists (and makes it really hard to use the laptop) and also doing an overhaul of my workstation to ensure i am not craning, bending, or slouching in any way. 7月12日 carpal tunneli think i have it. my fingers and forearm are all tingly and almost numb. should i use a left handed mouse, stop using my computer for a few days, or see a doctor? i'm tempted to ignore it but don't want to incur any permanent damage. 7月3日 Devil Wears PradaAn excellent movie well beyond my expectations. Meryl Streep is brilliant and Anne Hathaway is absolutely mesmerizing in her flawless presentation of the girl next door. Something for everyone in this movie. 7月2日 feeling sorry for tomMy condo has been wrapped in white plastic since June of 2005 and last week, the average temperature inside the condo even in the evening was over 90 degrees. I wake up to construction people hammering on the walls at 7am and I had to take all our blinds down so I live in a fishbowl with no sunlight or air but lots of construction workers. My colleague, Mike, calls my home "the hotbox." Construction is expected to be completed in October at which point I will be able to open my window once again. 6月29日 don't watch supermani was dragged there by a friend last night to watch this 3 hour ordeal at 10pm. first movie i've ever fell asleep at. 6月24日 blogging cyclesAs you can tell, I've not nearly been as prolific on my space as I would like to be. I guess the problem is I'm working on a bunch of things right now which are totally sucking all my time. Here is a sampling:
Helping Wendy pimp her blog with new widgets, forms, layouts, etc. check it out, it's prob one of the best seattle real estate blogs in existence.
My tech event calendar site which is part hobby, part dogfood for Trumba, part business.
Trumba's blog where I'm the defacto blogger in chief.
Various and sundry other things in life like trying to lose some weight through extended dog walking, my day job as a marketing dude at Trumba, and serving as Wendy's vp of marketing :) 6月18日 Whidbey ruled and my portfolio is suckingWhidbey island vacation was WONDERFUL. The cottage on a bluff with no other humans in site was just what the doctor ordered. Fireplace, grill, giant soaker bath tub, and 180 degree water views were heavenly.
I just took a look at my stock portfolio and I'm down 8% from where I was about 6 weeks ago. No one pick is sucking -- just all 20 of them... My latest buy was EQIX for 49.11 which is a bet on Web 2.0 and the idea that it won't be a world of just MSFT, Google, and Yahoo. It's what I call my Ralph Nadar bet :)
6月4日 Office Live WebsitesHere's a neat site built on the Office Live website building tools. We need to get them a Trumba booking calendar but not bad. I wonder how the folks at Homestead and similar places will differentiate.
6月3日 MSFT as the underdogAs much as it pains me to see MSFT stumble these days, one of the things that is interesting to note is that some people are now looking at the soft as the underdog. it's not explicit but read the comments in this recent cnet article. Can you imagine people sticking up for the soft even as short as 2 years ago? |
